NIEUWE OOGST FEBRUARI 2012. (aflevering 222)

De Engelse acteur HUGH LAURIE (bekend van de serie HOUSE), maakte een album LET THEM TALK. Het werd een blues album, jammer dat Hugh niet beter op zijn inmiddels Amerikaanse accent heeft gelet. Een misser. Video : Comment :Hugh Laurie has been forced to defend making an album that celebrates the music he loves. To his credit, the song selection is great, the musicianship excellent and stalwarts like Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas and Dr John add lustre. But the foray ultimately fails because Laurie’s voice is no more than adequate. On bouncy numbers he gets by but on Swanee River he sinks. Veel beter is het werk van de Japanse Kaen Aoki. Gedurfde covers op haar album VOYAGE. Avantgarde violist JEFF GAUTHIER hoort u met stukken van het album OPEN SOURCE. Tenslotte veel muziek van VIKTORIA TOLSTOY met een ode aan HERBIE HANCOCK.
