André Previn werd in 1929 in Berlijn geboren. Hij ontwikkelde zich als een wonderkind : op de middelbare school werkte hij al als jazzpianist.
Beroemd werd zijn opname van Porgy & Bess met Shelly Manne op drums en Leroy Vinnegar op bas.
U hoort verder zijn samenwerking met Doris Day, David Rose, Benny Goodman en zijn "eigen" London Symphony Orchestra.
